Quilts of Valor & Honor Flight Quilts

Fourteen quilts and crocheted lap quilts to Susan Krieger for the October 2019 Hudson Valley Honor Flight.

The Sussex County Quilters Quilts of Valor, in association with the Warwick Valley Quilters’ Guild, has awarded quilts to our service men and women all over the country, including those serving in Afghanistan, Washington, DC, etc. and many in Veterans Hospitals.  This project is possible through the donations of fabric, the hours of work, and the enthusiasm of members of the Warwick Guild.

On September 10, we awarded a Quilt of Valor to Jack Rader with his family present.  Jack Rader is a former postmaster of Greenwood Lake, member of the ambulance squad, fire department and a Navy veteran.   Jack Rader represents those we wish to honor.   He served in the U.S. Navy from July 3, 1956 to July 1, 1959 on board the destroyer USS Bache 470 as a navigator. He sailed from Norfolk around the continent in 131 days to Capetown, Africa, Mombasa, Massawa, the Suez Canal, Pireus, Barcelona Gibraltar then returning to Norfolk.
