Curate a collection of happy, bright prints and pretty, low volume neutrals or pull from your scrap bin for this fun foundation paper pieced quilt project. The Spinning Tops blocks are constructed in two sizes on printed papers for easy, perfect points! This class will focus on all the basics of foundation paper piecing, including cutting for least waste, as well as color design and balance. 

Supply list: 

~Spinning Tops pattern with foundation paper pieces $36 (available in class or online at VFW Quilts) 

~Optional – queen size kit available $269 in Playmaker/Neutrals fabric collections email info@vfwquilts.com by January 4th to reserve 

~FABRICS: use photo above for reference when choosing your colors/fabrics, as well as the yardage information below. This quilt is a terrific scrap quilt, especially with the backgrounds. Feel free to mix and match as many different prints as you wish. 

 Block fabrics –   

NOTE: We won't get to cutting and sewing all the blocks, so it isn't necessary to bring fabric for the whole quilt. Please bring 1-1/4 yds of fabric for the background, and 1/4 yd each of 6-8 fabrics for the small and large petals and border triangles. 

~Sewing machine, cord and foot pedal 

~Thread 

~Scissors 

~Rotary cutter 

~Cutting mat: at least 18” x 24” 

~Acrylic ruler – 6"x 24" (or similar size)

~Pins 

~All your basic sewing equipment. 

~Design wall: Cotton batting to lay out your design, and to carry it home 

~Roll of Painter's tape to hang your batting 

~surge protector/power strip 

~Irons/Ironing boards (as venue allows)
